Here goes my first experiment in meme-ship with this blog. Thanks, Cogdog!

The meme is “8 Random Things About Me”. The rules are:

1. Post these rules before you give your facts
2. List 8 random facts about yourself
3. At the end of your post, choose (tag) 8 people and list their names, linking to them
4. Leave a comment on their blog, letting them know they’ve been tagged

Eight random things:

1. Eight is my second least-favorite integer (two is my absolute least favorite).
2. I read voraciously. Mostly science fiction, but I’ll read anything good. Recommendations are welcome!
3. When I was three years old and living in Los Angeles, my three favorite places in the world were Disneyland, “The Bones“, and McDonald’s.
4. When I was in high school, I went to Costa Rica, co-discovered two species, and was on the cover of Weekly Reader. Years later I had a student who remembered that issue.
5. Despite being a computer scientist, I can type very fast. This does not actually help me write code faster.
   
6. I’ve lived in seven different US states. Rhode Island is the smallest.
7. I love to travel.
8. I hand-coded this post, and all others on this site, in XHTML. But if you’re here, you probably know that!

I’m supposed to tag eight other people, but many of the bloggers I admire have already responded to this meme. It has, as this graph demonstrates, been around for a while. Thanks, Technorati!
