Second Life in a Browser … almost!

While we’ve all been waiting for HTML-on-a-prim, the talented Katharine Berry has begun work on AjaxLife, a browser-based Second Life client. At the moment, it doesn’t do much more than log your avatar in, but I’m quite excited by the potential.

Actually it works fairly well on the TG - you can chat and teleport around the grid (more coming when I’m less lazy!). I’ve worked out what’s crashing it on the MG, thanks to someone telling me what the error that was causing it to hang was - it assumes that it’ll know the name of your sim, and it only knows TG sims. So it breaks.

I’m working on redoing the Map API to accept both - then it should work for you guys. :)

    Katharine,

I’m glad to hear it. The screenshots sure look great.

This is really fantastic work! I teach web application development at the college level, so I know some of the challenges involved. Please keep it up… you’re changing SL for the better.

Sorry for the double comment - but it should work for the MG now. :D
It’d be really nice if LL would provide an uncompressed version of the Map API’s code. Hacking around in that mess is painful. >.

    Oops. Forgot about HTML…

Sorry for the double triple comment - but it should work for the MG now.

Now I have to write a decent icon manager - showing 400 (TG max concurrency) green dot images is fine. Showing 48,000 at once would kill your browser.

Search function first though. So you can actually talk to people. :D

Great work, kudos and keep going… next make an edu friendly SL client? ;-) (only half joking)
