After reading this story over at Clear Night Sky’s blog (which also recently had the print to Second Life gem), I hopped over to MiniEgo and created an avatar.
It’s worth noting that MiniEgo provides many options for customizing your pixelish avatar, and the art is really adorable. In spite of the options, most of the avatars I met looked almost exactly the same.
I do think that a lot of great innovation is happening in virtual worlds for children and teenagers. I’m not sure if MiniEgo is targetting that population specifically, but this cross between MySpace and Club Penguin is filled* with a group of seriously bored fourteen year olds.
As a technical demo, it’s great. As a community space? “im bord to death”.
* Not “filled” exactly, because each room has a limit of 10 avatars at a time.
